Mock Tests study guide
Mock review: turn results into a study plan
Use a mock result to identify a repeatable next step and check it on fresh practice.
Look beneath the headline result
A mock result is a snapshot of one attempt. Review individual tasks and your responses before deciding what to practise. PenPTE scores and feedback are estimates, not official Pearson results.
Separate a knowledge gap from an execution problem. A wrong word choice may call for vocabulary work; an unfinished response may call for a better time-management routine. A recording problem needs a technical check before you judge the response.
Choose one narrow target
Select a recurring problem that you can describe and observe. “Improve listening” is too broad to review tomorrow. “Check plural endings in dictation” gives you a specific action and evidence to collect.
Complete a short focused practice set, review the mistakes and note whether the same error appears again. Keep a brief record of the task, error and next action; you do not need a complicated dashboard.
Check transfer before another full mock
Use unfamiliar questions to check your progress. If you only improve on examples you have already memorised, continue focused practice before drawing a wider conclusion.
When you take another mock, compare the types of errors as well as the overall estimate. Use the result to adjust your plan; do not assume one practice technique guarantees a particular exam score.
Practice checklist
- Review responses, not only the overall estimate.
- Distinguish skill errors from technical interruptions.
- Choose one observable practice target.
- Check progress on unfamiliar questions.
